Mining ancient to contemporary Christian practices of spirituality, Harry Parker has recovered practical aids for those seeking a deeper life with God. He draws on his experience as a pastor and his own encounters with desolation to help guide fellow pilgrims on the path to wholeness.
~David Heim, Editor in Chief, Christian Century
Dr. Harry Parker invites us into a spiritual journey that combines the disciplines of following Christ with the realities of pain and suffering. No stranger to pastoral ministry, Harry offers a wealth of practical advice and personal challenge to every Christian. What makes this book stand out is the way Harry weaves the reflections of Ignatius of Loyola into his own journey with cancer. Dr. Parker brings ancient writings to life and offers new meaning to those not only suffering with disease but also to those who face normal everyday challenges. Wisely and gently, Harry helps us understand that the obstacles are not problems to be overcome but places where God’s presence is revealed in new and meaningful ways. For believers who have long ago recognized that there is more to the Christian walk than simply what the prosperity gospel offers, Harry shows us how an ancient writer can become a truthful guide through the messy realities of life.
~Dr. William D. Shiell, N.T. Scholar and President of Northern Theological
Seminary
