Rev. Dr. Stephen R. Melton has been a pastor for over thirty years, preaching to congregation of over a thousand to as small as a couple dozen. He learned his style thanks to the teaching of David Buttrick, the Vanderbilt Drucilla Moore Buffington Professor of Homiletics and son of the famous Madison Avenue Church preacher, George Buttrick.
Dr. Melton received the Allen M. Jackson preaching award from Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary in 1985 where he received his Master of Divinity. Dr. Melton received his Doctor of Ministry from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary with a paper on developing spiritual discernment groups in congregations. He received a Certificate of Spiritual Formation from Columbia Theological Seminary in Georgia and a Certificate of Supervision from United Seminary in Dayton, Ohio.
Among his joys are grandchildren, carpentry and riding his 1986 Honda Gold Wing motorcycle, including visits to all 48 contiguous states. The picture below is of Dr. Melton at Deals Gap after riding the “Dragon’s Tail” in North Carolina.
