When we face with unexpected crises in life, we often become puzzled about the reason with question, “why”?    Job’s sudden crises and their severity were beyond human comprehension and his physical, emotional and spiritual sufferings were also beyond human imagination. His best friends, initially, comforted him with empathy, but soon became theologians to explain God in judgment for his sin. They annoyed Job instead of comforting him. Do we do the same act today to the sufferers by being “theologians?”  When unexpected bad things happen to us, we cannot presume to know the reason. Though the reasons are known only to God most of the times, we must be able to trust Him.  He created us in His sovereign Will with intention of great love, goodness and mercy.  God rewards our faith in Him no matter what our circumstances may try to prove.  

우리는 기대하지 않은 삶의 위기를 만날 때 당황하게 되면서 “왜 내게?” 라는 질문을 하게 됩니다. 인간으로서 감히 이해할 수 없이 격력하게 닥아온 욥의 위기와 또 그의 신체적, 정서적 그리고 영적인 고통은 상상을 초월하는 것이었습니다.  욥의 가장 친한 친구들이 처음에는 감정이입으로 그를 위로해 주었습니다만 얼마 안가서 그들은 신학자들이 되어 하나님이 그의 죄를 심판하시는 것이라고 해명하려 했습니다.  그들은 욥 을 위로하기 보다 더욱 고통스럽게 했습니다.  우리도 오늘날,  고통을 당하고 있는 사람들을 향해 “신학자” 와 같이 행동하고 있지나 않는지요?

우리가 기대하지 않던 나쁜일들이 우리에게 생기게 될 때  우리는 그 이유를 설명하려 하지 말아야 할 것입니다.  대부분의 경우 하나님만이 아시는 이유가 될지라도 우리는 그 하나님을 신뢰할 수 있어야만 합니다. 하나님은 자신의 주권으로 우리를 창조하셨고 그 주권속에는 그분의 크신 사랑과 선하심과 인자하심의 의지가 있으셨습니다.  우리의 환경이 어디로  우리를 끌고갈지라도 하나님을 신뢰하는 믿음을 보존하는 자들을 하나님은 상 주시는 분이십니다.
