Turning books into Bread

Parson's Porch & Book Publishing is a book publishing company with a double focus.  We focus on the needs of creative writers who need a professional publisher to turn their words into books, & we also focus on the needs of others by turning their books into bread by sharing our profits with those who are homeless and displaced by meeting their basic needs of food, clothing, shelter and safety.

The Rev. Dr. W. Wayne Price was born and grew up in Covington, Kentucky. He was the oldest of six children. He attended Southside Baptist Church in Covington until he left for college in 1956 at Cumberland College (now the University of the Cumberlands). He transferred to Carson-Newman College, Jefferson City, Tennessee, in 1958 until he graduated in 1960.
In 1981, Wayne, Jo Anna, and their two daughters, Portia and Jessica, moved to Williamsburg. Price, Virginia, where Dr. Price was senior pastor at Williamsburg Baptist Church until 1997.

He married Jo Anna Saegusa Price the same year. While Jo Anna completed college, he taught English in the Knoxville, Tennessee School System. The couple moved to Louisville, Kentucky, in 1962 so that Wayne could attend Southern Baptist Theological Seminary from 1962 — 1965. He graduated with a Master of Divinity, and served as pastor to four Kentucky churches from 1965 — 1981. He attended Lexington Theological Seminary from 1973 — 1975, graduating with a Doctorate of Ministries degree.

At that time, he felt called to the Episcopal Priesthood. After completing the General Ordination Exams, he was ordained as a Deacon, and then Priest. He was Assistant to the Rector at Grace Episcopal Church in Yorktown, Virginia, from 1999-2006, when he retired to continue the writing he had begun thirty years earlier.

Dr. Price published three non-fiction books: The Church and the Rites of Passage, (Broadman Press, 1989), Confessions of A Perfect Parent (Morehouse, 1993), and In Transition (Eerdmans Publishing, 2005). After publishing these books plus dozens of articles for Baptist Publications, he became ill with prostate cancer and motor neuron disease. Dr. Price worked on this collection of short stories for over a decade. He continued to write until his death on October 1, 2007. He asked me to promise that I would have these short stories published after his death. You will find these stories insightful, humorous, and comforting, as well.
